Public Protection Enforcement Policy

Cyngor Gwynedd’s Public Protection Service works to keep residents, visitors and businesses safe. Our teams cover food safety, trading standards, pollution, licensing and other key regulatory areas.

The Public Protection Enforcement Policy explains how we enforce the law, how we support businesses to comply, and what happens when serious or repeated breaches occur.

Policy contents

  • How we work with businesses by offering advice and guidance
  • How we investigate complaints and incidents
  • When we use formal action such as notices, fixed penalties, licence reviews or prosecution
  • Our commitment to fairness, consistency, transparency and proportionality
  • How we protect personal data and uphold equality and human rights

Our approach

We aim to prevent problems before they happen. Most issues are resolved through advice and cooperation. Formal action is taken only when necessary - for example where there is serious risk to health, safety, the environment or fair trading.
