The Gwynedd and Eryri Sustainable Visitor Economy 2035 Strategic Plan has been adopted with the following vision and principles:
A Visitor Economy for the benefit and wellbeing of the People, Environment, Language and Culture of Gwynedd and Eryri."
The Principles of the Gwynedd and Eryri National Park Visitor Economy:
- Celebrate, Respect and Protect our Communities, Language, Culture and Heritage
- Maintain and Respect our Environment
- Ensure that the advantages to Gwynedd and Eryri’s communities outweigh any disadvantages
The Gwynedd and Eryri Sustainable Visitor Economy 2035 will be delivered through coordinated action led by the Gwynedd and Eryri Partnership.
- Working in partnership across public, private and community sectors
- Supporting local businesses to develop sustainable practices
- Protecting and enhancing the natural environment of Eryri National Park and the wider Gwynedd area
- Managing visitor numbers and behaviour to reduce negative impacts
- Investing in infrastructure and services that support both residents and visitors
- Promoting responsible tourism and encouraging year-round visits
- Using evidence and local knowledge to inform decision-making
- Monitoring progress and adapting actions over time
This collaborative approach ensures that delivery remains flexible, locally informed and focused on long-term sustainability

Since the adoption of the Strategic Plan by Cyngor Gwynedd and Eryri National Park in February 2023, the following have taken place:
- The Gwynedd and Eryri Strategic Plan 2035 was launched at Plas Tan y Bwlch, Maentwrog on September 25, 2023.
- Conwy County Borough Council has now formally joined the partnership, strengthening collaboration across the Eryri National Park area.
- A memorandum of understanding has been agreed and signed between the three public sector partners, confirming their commitment to the partnership.
- A new partnership structure has been established, supporting the delivery of annual Action Plans, with the 2024–25 programme successfully completed (see infographic below under ‘Action Plan’).
- The Gwynedd and Eryri 2035 Conference was held in February 2025, bringing partners and stakeholders together to review progress and shape future priorities.

The action plan for 2024–25 has shown positive progress toward the long-term goals of the Gwynedd and Eryri 2035 partnership. With new networks of plastic-free businesses, improvements to tourism infrastructure, a variety of events, and more ambassadors for the area than ever before, the past year has laid a strong foundation for the future.
