Complaint about a school
If you have any concerns about your child's education, or if you are a pupil at a school with a concern, you can usually resolve them by speaking to the headteacher, class teacher, or another member of school staff.
You can find contact details for a school through our list of schools.
Each school has its own Complaints Policy. Please ask for a copy from the school.
Cyngor Gwynedd’s Education Authority cannot respond to complaints about a specific school; you must submit that complaint directly to the school. If your complaint relates to the services provided by the Education Authority (rather than a specific school), you can submit a formal complaint to Cyngor Gwynedd.
Make a complaint about a school
If you want to make a complaint, the complaint should be made directly to the school.
Stage A: Informal complaint
Raise the concern with the class teacher or Headteacher. Often, issues can be resolved simply at this stage.
Stage B: Written complaint
If you feel that your complaint has not been resolved, you should make a written complaint to the Headteacher. If your complaint is about the Headteacher, send it to the Chair of Governors using the school’s address. The school will investigate and provide a formal response.
Stage C: Complaint panel
If you are not satisfied with the response in Stage B you can ask the Governing Body's Complaints Committee to look again at the complaint. The Complaints Panel cannot consider any complaint until either the Headteacher or the Chair of Govenors has dealt with it at Stage B. The panel will meet, and you will be invited to attend and explain your complaint. The panel will also speak to the Headteacher and anyone else relevant to the complaint. Following the meeting you will receive a formal response from the Panel explaining its decision. This is the final stage in the school process.
