You will also need to consider whether the tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order.
Work on trees within a Conservation Area
It is an offence to carry out work on a tree (with a trunk diameter of more than 75mm (3") measured 1.5 metres (5") above natural ground level) which lies within a Conservation Area without providing at least 6 weeks notice.
This includes felling any tree or some of the tree’s branches, pruning, uprooting, etc.
You can submit a notice:
- By post: Download the Application for tree works form (pdf) (opens in new tab) and return it to the address at the bottom of the application form itself.
- Phone: 01766 771000 and request a copy of the form in paper format by post.
The Council will visit the site in order to assess the case. In some cases, a Tree Preservation Order will be placed on a tree.
Work on a dangerous / dead tree within a Conservation Area
If the tree is dead or dangerous, you must give at least 5 days notice (you won’t need to submit a formal application to fell the tree).
