Increasing the Capacity of Ysgol Chwilog

A statutory objection period was held between 8 February and 8 March 2023 on the proposal to increase the capacity of Ysgol Chwilog from 65 to 95 learners by adding a class to Ysgol Chwilog, to be operational on 1 September 2023. No objection was received to the proposal.

On Tuesday 15 May 2023, the proposal was approved by a Decision Notice of an individual member of Gwynedd Council's Cabinet and the decision became effective on 23 May 2023.

Work on site to build a new class to Ysgol Chwilog by September 2023 has started and is going well.

 Following a period of statutory consultation on the proposal to increase the capacity of Ysgol Chwilog to 95 from 1 September 2023, a report on the consultation was presented to Gwynedd Council's Cabinet on 24 January 2023. 

The Cabinet considered the observations received during the statutory consultation conducted on increasing the capacity of Ysgol Chwilog and the response to those observations, and resolved to: 

Approve the publication of a statutory notice and conduct an objection period, in accordance with the requirements of Section 48 of the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013, on the proposal to increase the capacity of Ysgol Chwilog to 95 from 1 September 2023, which is an increase of over 25% to the existing capacity. 

In accordance with this decision a Statutory Notice will be issued on 8 February 2023. Any person may object to the proposals within a period of 28 days from the publication date of the notice, that is by 8 March 2023. 

Objections should be sent in writing to the Head of Education, Gwynedd Council, Council Offices, Caernarfon, Gwynedd, LL55 1SH or by sending an e-mail to modernisingeducation@gwynedd.llyw.cymru

Cabinet 24 January 2023 – consultation report

A statutory consultation period was held between 19 October and 30 November 2022 on a proposal to increase the capacity of Ysgol Chwilog from 65 to 95 on 1 September 2023.

The consultation report has now been published and will be discussed by Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet on 24 January 2023. The relevant report and appendices, including an analysis of the responses received, are on the Council’s website www.cabinet.llyw.cymru/thecabinet (item 11).

At a meeting of Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet on 19 July 2022, the Cabinet approved the proposal to undertake a statutory consultation to increase the capacity of Ysgol Chwilog to 95, which is an increase of over 25% to the existing capacity, in accordance with the requirements of section 48 of the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013. 

The statutory consultation on the proposal to increase the school’s capacity from 65 to 95 learners by adding a classroom to Ysgol Chwilog, to be operational from 1 September 2023, will be held between 19 October and 30 November 2022.

Cabinet Report and Decision Notice, 19 July 2022

 

Following submitting an application for funding from the Welsh Government's Welsh Medium Capital Grant for an creating additional classrooms in Ysgol Chwilog, Ysgol Llanllechid and Ysgol Bro Lleu, in response to a predicted increase in pupil numbers as a result of housing developments, a report was presented to Cabinet on 19 July 2022 asking for their support to proceed to submit full business cases to the Welsh Government to secure funding from the Welsh-medium Education Capital Grant scheme to deliver the purposes of the following projects:

a) Project 1 - Invest over £1.1m to increase capacity and improve the learning environment of Gwynedd Language Centres - the second phase.

b) Project 2 - Invest over £1.5m in capital funding and £0.3m in revenue funding to increase the capacity of three schools (Llanllechid, Bro Lleu and Chwilog), in order to support Welsh communities of linguistic significance (i.e. the communities with over 70% of Welsh speakers) to thrive.

The report also asked for Cabinet approval to carry out a statutory consultation on the proposal to increase the capacity of Ysgol Chwilog to 95, which is an increase of over 25% to the existing capacity, in accordance with the requirements of Section 48 of the Schools Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013, and report back to the Cabinet after completing the consultation.

Following consideration the Cabinet approved the proposals.
