FAQs – changes to affordable housing schemes in Gwynedd

This page offers answers to frequently asked questions about upcoming changes to the way some affordable housing schemes in Gwynedd will be managed.

The Cyngor Gwynedd Service Level Agreement with Tai Teg will come to an end on 1 April 2026. As a result, the Council will manage some of its affordable housing schemes directly.

The first scheme to be affected is the Gwynedd Homebuy Scheme and Section 106 assessments. From 1 April 2026, these schemes will be managed by Cyngor Gwynedd instead of Tai Teg.

If you intend to apply for a home through the Homebuy scheme, from 1 April 2026 you will need to contact Cyngor Gwynedd directly. Tai Teg will no longer be part of the process.

From 1 April, visit our website for more information about the criteria and to begin the application process. This information will be available on the website from that date: Homebuy scheme

Or contact us on:

All assessments for Section 106 properties will also be done directly by Cyngor Gwynedd from this date.

If you’ve started the process of buying a house through the Homebuy Scheme with Tai Teg, you do not need to do anything – you will continue with Tai Teg.

Recently, Cyngor Gwynedd have launched their Housing One Stop Shop, which aims to provide a single point of access for residents for housing advice and support.

As part of this work, the Council will begin managing its affordable housing schemes directly so that residents can access housing services in one place.

The only schemes changing at this time are the Homebuy Scheme and Section 106 assessments.

Other schemes will remain the same for now.

Cyngor Gwynedd intends to directly manage additional affordable housing schemes in the future, including:

However, these changes will be introduced gradually, and you do not need to do anything at this stage if you are interested in applying for a property through either of the above schemes.

More information will be shared as further details become available.

Here is a table showing which schemes will be affected:

If you want to start applying for the Homebuy Scheme after 1 April, you will need to apply with Cyngor Gwynedd. If you have already started the process, you will continue with Tai Teg.

Details for the other schemes (Buy to Let and Tŷ Gwynedd) will be confirmed in due course, but it will not be necessary to be on the Tai Teg register to apply for them.

Yes. Tai Teg will continue to maintain the intermediate register to allow someone to apply for the schemes that continue to be managed by Tai Teg (see the table above). However, the Council will not use the register to accept nominations.

You will need to register with Tai Teg for the housing associations’ affordable housing schemes.

For the Council’s schemes, the Council will not keep a register – instead, it will be possible to submit an expression of interest form for the Homebuy Scheme with the Council at any time via a link on the Council’s website; other schemes (Buy to Let and Tŷ Gwynedd) will open for a specific period and people will be required to submit applications at that time.

The Housing One Stop Shop will deal with any applications received for schemes managed by the Council. The One Stop Shop officers are experienced housing professionals with many years of experience administering the social housing register.

No. The schemes will remain open while funding is available. If you are interested in applying, applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis.
