Cyngor Gwynedd offering Apprenticeship and Graduate job opportunities in new fields

Date: 01/05/2025

There are new and exciting opportunities available to start your career in Gwynedd as part of Cyngor Gwynedd's Apprenticeship jobs scheme and Graduate scheme, Cynllun Yfory 2025.

These schemes are a unique opportunity to develop a career path by working with experienced people, gaining valuable qualifications, and getting paid at the same time. A total of 21 jobs are available this year: 8 graduates and 13 apprentices.

Cyngor Gwynedd Apprenticeship Scheme

Different levels of apprenticeships are offered; from foundation to degree level, offering something to suit everyone. This year, the jobs range – from new areas such as Energy, to Software Engineering, Finance and Pensions, Mechanic, and working with Councillors.

David Mark Lewis, Energy and Commercial Services Manager, Housing and Property who are offering an apprenticeship opportunity for the first time, said:

"Being able to offer apprenticeships will enable us to strengthen our resources in this important and busy field.

"It is an area that bridges many Services within the Council, whether that's buildings, renewable energy, transport, waste and information technology. Reducing carbon emissions is one of the Council's priorities, and being part of this Team would be an opportunity to make a direct difference to the people of Gwynedd by improving our environment and saving money.

"If there are people out there who are interested in this interesting field and are attracted by the benefits of the Apprenticeship Scheme, we would encourage them to give it a try."

Sean Davies has been following the Council's Apprenticeship Scheme, and recently received a Level 2 qualification in Activity Leading, under the care of Byw'n Iach and Urdd Gobaith Cymru. Sean has now taken up a full-time position as a Leisure Assistant (and Duty Manager) with Byw'n Iach. Sean said:

"The apprenticeship gave me so much confidence and a boost to my career. Without the apprenticeship, I don't think I would have received the various opportunities to develop myself in such a short time."

Cynllun Yfory

Through Cynllun Yfory, which is the Council's Graduate scheme, new graduates can start their career with the Council and develop expertise in a variety of areas and understand more about working in local government. There is also the opportunity to gain a qualification, usually a master's degree, as part of the job.

This year's graduate opportunities include jobs in:

  • Digital Projects
  • Planning Ecologist
  • Environmental Health
  • Planning
  • Climate Change and Environment (North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent)
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Safety, Health and Well-being
  • Tax and Benefits

Elin, a Health and Safety professional trainee with NMWTRA (North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent), said:

"The greatest benefit of Cynllun Yfory is being able to undertake practical work whilst continuing my studies. The best advice I could give to applicants is not to be afraid to ask questions! Everybody is very welcoming and are ready to share their knowledge and experiences, which helps you gain an idea of the day-to-day job and field."

Councillor Llio Elenid Owen, Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, added:

"The Apprenticeship Scheme and Graduate Scheme is something I'm very pleased that we are able to offer here in Gwynedd. As a Council, we want to secure good jobs for the people of the county and thanks to these schemes many residents of Gwynedd have had the opportunity to start a career and gain valuable qualifications at the same time, in a naturally Welsh environment.

"If you are looking for the perfect opportunity to develop your career in Gwynedd but are not sure where to start, these opportunities could be the next step for you. Go for it!"

The deadline for all jobs is May 8, 2025.
