Cyngor Gwynedd developing new industrial units in Minffordd
Date: 16/03/2026
Good news is on the horizon for the business sector in Gwynedd as work is underway by the Council to develop new work units in a business park near Penrhyndeudraeth.
Due to a joint venture between Cyngor Gwynedd and the Welsh Government, work to construct new industrial units - which will be able to accommodate up to 10 businesses - at Eryri Business Park, Minffordd, has now commenced.
The aim of the £3 million joint-funded project between Cyngor Gwynedd and Welsh Government is to respond to the shortage of business units available in the area.
This investment enables the construction of four new buildings offering 10 flexibly-sized units (70-100m²) that will be suitable for new or expanding businesses.
The units will be net zero in terms of their energy use, with solar panels and air source heat pump system units installed in them. This will reduce costs for tenants and will contribute to the Council's response to the climate change crisis.
Councillor Richard Medwyn Hughes, Cabinet Member for Economy and Community stated:
"I am very glad to see the work on these industrial units progressing as Cyngor Gwynedd invests in this important site.
This project will address the substantial demand from local businesses for this type of space, and I look forward to seeing businesses being able to move in."
Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Leader of the Council, added:
"This development gives an important boost to the local economy and provides opportunities for people to set up businesses and to work in their communities.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the new units open by the Autumn and full of life, buzz and enterprise.
"The Council is proud to work with the Welsh Government on this important development which will lay the basis for further collaboration into the future."
Councillor Meryl Roberts, local member for Penrhyndeudraeth said:
"I welcome the progress made on this development to date.
It will help retain businesses in the area, support local jobs, and provide modern resources for businesses, which is essential to the economic growth of Minffordd and Penrhyndeudraeth."
Rebecca Evans, the Welsh Government's Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Energy and Planning, stated:
"I am very glad to see work commencing on this important economic project for Gwynedd.
"This investment shows the Welsh Government's commitment to supporting new business start-ups, helping existing businesses to grow and creating employment opportunities for local people."
