Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet supports An Economy that Works for All Gwynedd 2035
Date: 13/03/2026
Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet has backed the first steps towards adopting a new economic strategy for Gwynedd 'An Economy that Works for All: Gwynedd 2035'.
Based on input from partners and stakeholders, including enterprises, organisations and the third sector, the Strategy has set out a long‑term vision and priorities for Gwynedd’s economy, namely:
“An innovative, productive and low-carbon economy which strengthens the Welsh language, creates new opportunities and contributes towards everyone's well-being.”
The vision places the people, communities and enterprises of Gwynedd at the centre. To deliver it, three themes have been identified: Enterprise, People and Place.
Enterprise – prosperous local businesses that excel
- Maximise the value of the current economy
- Make the most of new opportunities
People – a skilled and inclusive workforce
- Securing a skilled workforce
- Supporting our people
Place – the best conditions to thrive
- The best possible connectivity an infrastructure
- A great place to live, work and enterprise
Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Leader of Cyngor Gwynedd, said:
"We want an economy that gives the people of Gwynedd an opportunity to live full lives and realise their full potential; an economy that strengthens the Welsh language and our natural environment that makes our county so unique.
"This strategy provides clear and strong guidance to navigate developments that affect the residents of Gwynedd and keeping the benefit local. Collaboration with partners will be a core part of the vision.”
Councillor Medwyn Hughes, Cyngor Gwynedd Cabinet Member for Economy and Community, added:
"There's plenty of potential here - in our residents, communities and entrepreneurs; but this potential is not always realised. We must create an economy which brings benefits to all by creating new employment, reducing poverty and improving quality of life across the county."
After receiving the Cabinet's support, the Full Council with be asked to adopt the Strategy at its meeting in May 2026.
To realise the strategy the Council will establish the Gwynedd Economy Forum. The Forum's membership will include organisations that contribute to prosperity locally, and bodies from all sectors working to develop the local economy across Gwynedd.
Work is already underway to draw up a Delivery Plan which will respond to the priorities of the Strategy; the Plan will map out existing activities and will identify projects that we wish to be funded through sources such as the Welsh Government's Local Growth Fund, and anyone with proposed plans is encouraged to get in touch by sending a message to TwfLleol@gwynedd.llyw.cymru.
