Supporting neurodivergence: New digital tool set to launch at the National Eisteddfod

Date: 28/07/2025

The Gwynedd Autism Team is calling on people of all ages to come and trial a brand new App on the Maes of the National Eisteddfod in Wrecsam.

The team will be on the North Wales Regional Partnership Board stall and there will be an opportunity for the public to drop-in to test the 'Niwro Cymru' App on Saturday 2 August and Tuesday 5 August, 2025. This will help the officers to adapt and develop the App before its full launch after the summer.

'Niwro Cymru' is a bilingual App developed to support neurodivergent individuals, their families and professionals. It offers clear and reliable information, fun and calming activities, details of local events and support as well as resources for professionals.

It was developed through direct engagement with the young people of Gwynedd and their families, and through valuable feedback received from the Neuro Roadshow held earlier in the year. The ideas were used to create the content, key features, and logo design of the App.

The App includes thoughtful features such as:

  • Subtle animation, haptic feedback and non-disruptive sounds
  • Offline content to reduce data costs for users
  • Accessibility: Contrast, layouts and 'text to speech'

Councillor Menna Trenholme, Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet Member for Children and Supporting Families, said:

"This project is a step forward in recognising, celebrating, and supporting neurodiversity across our communities. We are committed to improving our provision here in Gwynedd and we are confident that the App will be a valuable additional tool for families to access information, activities and support.

"The App is designed with children in mind; from the bright, calm and friendly design to the fact that it's easy to navigate whether you're parents, carers, siblings or professionals."

Councillor Dilwyn Morgan, Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Well-being and Chair of the North Wales Regional Partnership Board, added:

"The Regional Partnership Board works closely with partners to support the well-being of people across North Wales. I'm delighted that the Board has been able to invest in this innovative software - the first of its kind in the field available in Welsh alongside English. This App reflects the collaborative approach to supporting digital inclusion”.

"I'm really looking forward to meeting families who will have the opportunity to pilot the App during the National Eisteddfod in Wrecsam."
