Date: 12/02/2026
Cyngor Gwynedd has secured grant funding from the Welsh Government and UK Government to upgrade and provide more play equipment across the county.
Improvements have been completed at several playgrounds, including:
- Cae Glyn, Caernarfon – A basket swing, which is suitable for disabled children.
- Recreation Ground near the Promenade, Tywyn – A new multi-purpose frame.
- Waun, Harlech – a wheelchair-friendly roundabout
- Ffordd y Maer, Pwllheli – A net spinner
- Ffordd Cynan, Penrhosgarnedd – A wheelchair-friendly roundabout
- Maes y Môr, Penygroes – A multi-purpose frame
- Old Skateboard Park, Talysarn – Resurfacing the old site with tarmac to enable children to play ball games.
Further work will also take place at other play fields across the county.
Cyngor Gwynedd's Learning Disability Work Opportunities Team is also in the process of providing Communication Boards for the county's playgrounds to support and encourage communication and ensure that everyone can enjoy the facilities.
Councillor June Jones, Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet Member for Municipal Assets, said:
“With the half-term holidays approaching, we encourage children and families to take advantage of these facilities by getting out and enjoying the local parks and playgrounds. They offer safe, fun and welcoming spaces to spend quality time together.
“This investment underlines Cyngor Gwynedd's commitment to providing inclusive and sustainable play opportunities. We continue to work with local communities to ensure that these facilities are maintained and protected for the future.
“We urge everyone to respect these facilities so that the playgrounds continue to be safe and fun for all children and families.”
