New chapter for Ysgol Friars

Date: 06/02/2026

A permanent Headteacher has been appointed to Ysgol Friars in Bangor.

Margaret Davies joined the Ysgol Friars team on secondment as interim headteacher following Easter 2025 and at a meeting of School Governors earlier this week it was confirmed that she had been appointed to the post permanently.

Over the past nine months, Margaret Davies has introduced a number of changes bringing stability and a positive new direction to the school.

The chair of the Governors, Councillor Elin Walker Jones, said, “We congratulate Mrs Davies on her appointment, and very much look forward to continuing to work with her to build on the solid foundations that have already been in place since her arrival at the school, for the benefit of pupils, staff and the whole school community.”

Mrs Margaret Davies said: “I am delighted to be appointed as the permanent Headteacher at Ysgol Friars and feel privileged to lead the school.

“I look forward to continuing to work in partnership with pupils, families, staff, the Governing Body and the whole school community. Together, we will foster a culture of high achievement, inclusivity and respect, where every student is inspired to succeed.”

Councillor Dewi Jones, Cyngor Gwynedd Cabinet Member for Education, added: “I very much welcome this news, it has been a pleasure to work with Margaret over the last few months and I look forward to continuing the positive relationship.

“This is the beginning of a new chapter for the school and I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing Margaret every success as she continues to lead the school with a clear focus on the well-being, safety and development of everyone in the school community.”
