Welsh Slate
The story of Wales Slate is an age-old one. This post-industrial landscape has a special place in the hearts of residents. The Slate Landscape of North West Wales tells the story of the evolution of a quiet, agricultural region to an area where there was no escaping the slate industry. This is where quarries, towns and villages appeared, and roads and railways were carved through Eryri to the ports.
In 2021, The Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, one of four designations in Wales, and one of 32 sites in the United Kingdom.
The World Heritage Site is run by a partnership, which is led by Cyngor Gwynedd.
