Gwynedd social housing

Social housing in Gwynedd is provided by housing associations that offer affordable housing options to people. It is cheaper than renting privately and often offers long-term stability for tenants, helping those who cannot afford to rent or buy a home on the open market.

To be considered for social housing you must apply for social housing.

Anyone with a connection to Gwynedd can apply to be on the Housing Register.

There is a connection with Gwynedd:

• If you have been living in Gwynedd for 5 years (at any time).
• If you have a close family member who currently lives in Gwynedd and has lived here for at least 10 years.
• If you have been employed in Gwynedd for the last 5 years.
• If you have been offered a job in Gwynedd but have had to refuse because of a disability and have had trouble finding a house in the area.
• If you serve in the Armed Forces in Gwynedd.

A member of the team will contact you to discuss the application and to complete an assessment. As part of the assessment we will discuss your application information, including the supporting documents. A member of the team will then let you know the outcome of the assessment.

The demand for social housing is very high and the number of people applying and waiting for a property is much higher than the number of properties available. There is no way of knowing how long the process will take for individuals. It all depends on when a property becomes available and how many applicants want/need a house in that area.

When a property becomes available, a list will be produced from the Housing Register. Applicants who have selected the area, that type of property and the number of bedrooms will be shortlisted for the property. Applicants will be prioritised according to bands, community connection and waiting time.

If the house is in one of the areas you have chosen you do not need to put your name forward. You will automatically be considered for a property that matches the preferences you have specified in your application.
