Gwynedd Resettlement Team
How do we support refugees and people seeking asylum in Gwynedd?
Gwynedd offers a safe and inclusive welcome to people fleeing conflict and persecution. Over the years, people from a variety of backgrounds have settled in the county, enriching our culture and communities.
What is the role of the Resettlement Team?
The Gwynedd Resettlement Team provides essential support to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers who are located in the county through the UK Government's resettlement and dispersal schemes. Our main objective is to ensure that each individual settles in safely, feels fully part of the community, and integrates effectively into life in Gwynedd.
Gwynedd is part of a number of national resettlement schemes, including:
UK Resettlement Scheme
- The scheme supports refugees from around the world. It is funded by the Home Office.
Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy
- This policy supports Afghan nationals who worked with the UK Government in Afghanistan. Those who are eligible may be offered relocation to the UK, subject to decisions by the Ministry of Defense and the Home Office.
Afghan Citizen Resettlement Scheme
- This scheme is closed to new applicants.
- The scheme offered a safe, legal route for people at risk, especially those who supported UK efforts in Afghanistan and promoted values like democracy, women’s rights, free speech, and the rule of law. It also helped resettle vulnerable people, including at-risk women, minority groups, and LGBT+ individuals.
Asylum Dispersal
- Dispersal is the process by which the Home Office moves destitute asylum seekers to counties across the UK under the UK Government’s Policy of Full Dispersal. This policy means that every council in the UK is expected to work with the Home Office to find accommodation for asylum seekers, so that everyone makes a contribution to providing support.
Ukrainian schemes
- The UK Government's Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched in 2022. The scheme relies on UK residents to sponsor people from Ukraine to come and live in the UK with them. If you are interested in registering or need more information, please visit: Offer a home in Wales to refugees from Ukraine
