Voting for Everyone
Voting and elections should be easily accessible to everyone who has the legal right to vote, whether they have a disability or not.
We understand that some people need more support than others to use their vote. The Council’s Elections Team is available to provide help and guidance, and they will be happy to assist you in any appropriate way.
Support in Polling Stations
To help voters, the following will be available in every polling station:
- Large print notices of the ballot paper
(These can be used for reference, but you must cast your vote on a standard print ballot paper, as required by law.)
- Audio ballot paper
(A QR code will be available on a leaflet in the polling station, linking to an audio recording of the ballot paper being read aloud.)
- Tactile voting device
(Available to help blind or visually impaired voters to vote independently. Please ask a member of staff at the polling station about this device.)
- You may also ask the Presiding Officer (the person in charge of the polling station) for assistance. The Presiding Officer is legally bound by the requirement for secrecy, and your vote will remain completely confidential.
