Gwynedd's getting registered

Join 90% of residents who are already registered on the electoral roll.

What are we doing?

The law in Wales has changed, making it easier than ever to get registered to vote. This is great news!

Cyngor Gwynedd is one of the first councils in the UK to trial registering eligible residents directly. This will happen over the summer in partnership with Just Register, a national campaign to improve voter registration in the UK.

If you are eligible to vote, we’ll make sure you’re added so you can have your say in local elections for Cyngor Gwynedd and Senedd Cymru if you choose.

How does it work?

In the coming months, Cyngor Gwynedd will use information we have available to us as a local authority to check who else is missing from the register.

The types of information we may look at include:

  • Council tax records
  • Information from local schools
  • Information you give us when you access our services (e.g., planning applications, waste collection)

In most cases, you don’t need to do anything at all.

We’ll simply send you a letter in the post to confirm you’ve been added to the electoral roll.

You will then have 60 days to respond before you are automatically added to the local electoral register.

Does registration help me?

Whether or not you choose to vote, being registered boosts your credit score which can make it easier to get a mortgage, car or other personal loan. Lenders often check the register when you apply for finance, so being registered can make it easier to get approved.

Being registered can also help your community in other ways. It ensures you can have your say on issues that affect you locally whenever you choose to have your say.

What do I need to do?

Most people won’t need to do anything except wait for a confirmation letter from us in the post. In some cases, we may need to confirm a few extra details before we can register you properly. If this applies to you, we'll invite you to fill in this quick form so we can get in touch by text message or phone call.
