Waste and recycling collections

Date: 02/10/2023

Ensuring modern recycling and waste collection arrangements and continuing to reduce the waste produced in Gwynedd is one of the Council's corporate priorities.

As part of this work and to ensure the best value for money, work is taking place to review and transform the services the Council provides to residents in this area.

Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Cyngor Gwynedd Cabinet Member for Environment said:

"Cutting down the waste we produce is something that is at the forefront of the minds of many people in Gwynedd. As a Council, we are keen to work together with our residents to ensure that we continue to improve the county’s recycling levels.

"Work is taking place to modernise the arrangements of the service but it is inevitable that such a significant change will take time.

"However, we are aware that there are problems with collections in some areas at times. I understand that can be frustrating, but every effort is made to communicate any delays through the Council's social media accounts.

“Specifically recently, industrial action by the Unite union has affected collections in some parts of the county and every effort has been made by the workforce to catch up with the work since then.

“But to complicate the situation, a number of members of the workforce have been off work recently due to illness in recent weeks, and this has affected the service's ability to complete collections in some areas.

"We sincerely apologize for the problems and the impact that has had. Despite the recent problems, we are confident that things are improving, and I would encourage you to make the most of the services provided to dispose of items for recycling, food waste, garden and so on."

In the meantime, any member of the public can report missed collections on the Council's website www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/missedcollection and you can submit any query using your self-service account www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/myaccount ,via the apGwynedd app, or otherwise by phoning Galw Gwynedd on 01766 771000.
