Storiel is consulting with the public on the design of a sculpture to be placed near the museum and gallery building in Bangor.

Local artist Llyr Erddyn Davies has been commissioned to design and create the sculpture, with the aim of drawing attention to the wonderful collection of objects and artefacts showcased within Storiel and reflecting the county’s rich history.

The original brief asked for something playful, therefore Llyr has referenced much of the local history through a series of hats and headwear to represent the many communities and stories of Gwynedd, which include a sailor’s cap, a military helmet, a graduation cap and a Bishop’s mitre.

The design has been developed from public workshops with residents from Bangor and the surrounding area. There will be a chance to meet Llyr to talk about the sculpture on 6 April in Storiel, Bangor between 11am-1pm.

Storiel has received funding from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns fund to re-design their outdoor space and to make it more inviting for guests. They are now looking for feedback on the design by members of the public and an online questionnaire is available: https://rb.gy/tc7b
