Making a difference to local lives: Cyngor Gwynedd Plan 2023-28 is adopted

Date: 28/04/2023

Cyngor Gwynedd has agreed on the priority areas which will form the basis for improving services provided for local people for the next five years.

Th Cyngor Gwynedd Plan 2023-28 identifies seven priority fields for the Council, with each one including a number of projects making a real difference to local communities and lives of people who live and work here in Gwynedd.

The seven priority fields which will drive the projects for 2023-28 are:

  • TOMORROW'S GWYNEDD - Giving children and young people the best possible start in life.
  • A PROSPEROUS GWYNEDD - Strengthening the economy and supporting the people of Gwynedd to earn a decent wage.
  • A HOMELY GWYNEDD - Supporting the people of Gwynedd to live in suitable and affordable homes in their communities.
  • A CARING GWYNEDD - Supporting the residents of Gwynedd to live full and safe lives in our communities.
  • A WELSH GWYNEDD - Ensuring that we give our residents every possible opportunity to use the Welsh language in the community.
  • A GREEN GWYNEDD - Protecting the county's natural beauty and responding positively to the climate change crisis.
  • AN EFFICIENT GWYNEDD - Putting local people at the heart of everything we do and treating people fairly, ensuring that the Council performs effectively and efficiently.

Cyngor Gwynedd Leader, Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn, said: "I’m delighted to share the Council’s vision and priorities for the next five years with the people of Gwynedd.

“We have listened to their opinions, including feedback received during the Ardal Ni public consultation and information gathering exercise. We are committed to delivering projects that will allow us to further develop and improve the services we provide for our residents.

“Despite the current financial difficulties whereby our budgets are under huge and unprecedented pressure, the Council is aiming high and will work hard to achieve the ambitions we have set out in the plan.”

The plan includes only a fraction of the Council's work, as it does not include the day-to-day services which people across the county depend upon 24/7, 365 days a year.

The plan will be reviewed continuously, and milestones for each project will be set so that progress can be checked annually.

The projects within the Cyngor Gwynedd Plan will directly contribute to delivering national well-being goals, as set out by Welsh Government’s Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, giving due consideration to the long-term, prevention, integrated working, collaborative working and involving people of all ages.

Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn added: "We are confident that this plan will enable us to continue to provide quality services and support the people of Gwynedd to thrive, despite the challenges we may face in the coming years. We look forward to working with our residents to make our vision a reality."
