What does it mean to be a Disability confident employer?

Disability Confident is a government initiative designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain people with disabilities and those with health conditions in work. The Disability Confident Scheme helps employers get the most out of the talents of people with disabilities in the workplace.

With the help of Disability Confident, thousands of employers are:

  • challenge attitudes towards disability
  • improve understanding of disability
  • removing barriers for disabled people and those and long-term health conditions
  • ensuring disabled people have opportunities to achieve their full potential.

 

What are the different levels to becoming a Disability Confident employer?

It is voluntary and has been developed by employers and disabled people’s representatives. Disability Confident has three levels that have been designed to support organisations:

  • Level 1: Disability Confident Committed
  • Level 2: Disability Confident Employer
  • Level 3: Disability Confident Leader

Advantages of registering to become a Disability Confident Employer:

  • improves employee morale and enthusiasm by demonstrating that they treat all employees fairly

Information about the Access to Work grant:

Access to Work is a publicly funded employment support grant scheme that aims to support disabled people start or stay in work. It can provide practical and financial support for people who have a disability or physical or mental health condition. Support can be provided where someone needs support or adaptations beyond reasonable adjustments.
