Antur Nantlle
Dyffryn Nantlle Enterprise Park
Area: Bro Lleu & Nantlle
Total UKSPF Gwynedd funding: £500,000
What is the background?
Antur Nantlle Cyf is a social enterprise established in 1991 to work for the benefit of Dyffryn Nantlle. It is a not-for-profit community company run by a board of volunteer directors. Over the years it has delivered numerous economic regeneration projects and opportunities, and today they provide a home for over 50 local independent businesses which in turn support over 130 local jobs.
What was the support?
Dyffryn Nantlle Enterprise Park is Antur Nantlle’s latest site of business units on Penygroes Industrial Estate.
Vital improvements needed to be made to the units to improve their energy efficiency, and to ensure they were suitable for use by local businesses, and to safeguard jobs for years to come.
The buildings were re-roofed and insulated and a solar panel array installed to improve the units’ environmental performance, generate cheap and clean energy, and reduce the costs of the local businesses working in them at a very challenging time for small businesses.
What difference has this made?
The work has secured an important employment site for years to come. The units are warmer, and the site and buildings are generally more appealing and welcoming.
Over time, the businesses housed here will see significant financial savings in their energy bills from the solar panels, increasing their long-term sustainability and the employment they provide.
“The project’s aim was to secure an important employment site in Dyffryn Nantlle, and to boost the sustainability of local businesses. A combination of insulation measures and solar panels will result in a saving of tonnes of CO2 emissions every year, whilst the users of the units will benefit from direct financial savings via lower energy bills.”
