Statutory Notice: Proposal to close Ysgol Nebo

Following the statutory consultation on the proposal to close Ysgol Nebo, a consultation report was presented to Cyngor Gwynedd’s Cabinet on 19 May 2026. Having considered the contents of the report, the Cabinet resolved as follows:

“The content of the report on the outcome of the statutory consultation (Consultation Report) on the proposal to close Ysgol Nebo on 31 December 2026 and provide a place for learners at Ysgol Llanllyfni from 1 January 2027 was considered, and the publication of a statutory notice on the proposal was approved, in accordance with the requirements of Section 48 of the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013.”

In accordance with the above decision, Cyngor Gwynedd has today (3 June 2026) published a Statutory Notice on the proposal to close Ysgol Nebo on 31 December 2026 and to provide places for learners at Ysgol Llanllyfni from 1 January 2027 onwards. A statutory consultation period was held between 5 December 2025 and 23 January 2026 on the proposal to close Ysgol Nebo on 31 December 2026 and provide a place for learners at Ysgol Llanllyfni from 1 January 2027 onwards.

The Consultation Report has now been published and will be discussed by Cyngor Gwynedd’s Cabinet at their meeting on 19 May 2026. The consultation report and the associated appendices are available on the Council’s website via the link below:

Cyngor Gwynedd has held a statutory consultation on a proposal to close Ysgol Nebo. The proposal was:

"To close Ysgol Nebo on 31 December 2026 and provide a place for learners at Ysgol Llanllyfni from 1 January 2027 onwards."

Cyngor Gwynedd invites you to put forward your views on the above proposal, so it can be considered before a decision is made on the next steps.

The statutory consultation period was held between 5 December 2025 and 23 January 2026.

Following the statutory consultation period, a report on the consultation will be presented to Cyngor Gwynedd’s Cabinet, and a decision will be made whether or not to proceed with the proposal. The consultation report will summarise the issues raised by the consultees during the statutory consultation and will include Cyngor Gwynedd’s response to those issues.

At its meeting on 14 October 2025, the Cabinet supported a recommendation to begin a statutory consultation on the proposed proposal to close Ysgol Nebo on 31 December 2026 and provide a place for learners at Ysgol Llanllyfni from 1 January 2027.

At its meeting on 11 February 2025, Cyngor Gwynedd's Cabinet resolved to allow the Education Department to hold formal discussions with the Governing Body and other relevant stakeholders of Ysgol Nebo, to enable a range of possible options relating to the future of the school to be drawn up, following concerns about pupil numbers at the school.

Following the Cabinet decision on 11 February 2025, a School Review Panel (SRP) for Ysgol Nebo was established to discuss the situation of the school, as well as consider the possible options with the school stakeholder.
