The Flying Start scheme has been extended to the Pwllheli area, ensuring that more young children and their families can access vital support during the early years of life.

Flying Start provides targeted support for families with young children, focusing on improving outcomes for children from birth up to the start of school.

The expansion is part of the Welsh Government's ongoing commitment to reducing inequalities and giving children the best possible start in life. Eligible families will be able to access a range of services, including health support, parenting support, speech and language support, and high-quality childcare.

The expansion means that families in Pwllheli will be eligible to access Flying Start services for the first time, extending the support already available to families in other areas of Gwynedd.

A new building funded by the Welsh Government will be sited at Ysgol Cymerau grounds during 2027 to offer more childcare places for the scheme. Two-year-olds will be able to access funded childcare for 12 and a half hours a week initially.

Councillor Menna Trenholme, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Supporting Families, said:

We welcome the opportunity to extend Flying Start to more families in our communities. The early years are vital to a child's development, and the support provided through the programme helps families build strong foundations for future health, learning, and well-being. This extension is an important investment in our children and our communities."

Families living in Pwllheli will receive further information about their eligibility and the services available over the coming weeks.
