Camper van and motorhome owners urged to visit responsibly

Cyngor Gwynedd extends a warm welcome to owners of camper vans and motorhomes who choose to visit the county, and encourages them to help keep Gwynedd a clean, safe and enjoyable place for everyone to enjoy.

Gwynedd is a popular destination that attracts thousands of visitors each year due to its unique landscapes, stunning coastline and vibrant communities. To ensure a positive experience for visitors and residents alike, the Council is asking owners of camper vans and motorhomes to take responsibility for their behaviour and impact on the local environment.

This includes ensuring that all types of waste are disposed of responsibly and legally, including rubbish, wastewater and chemical waste. The Council is also urging visitors to avoid causing disruption in local communities, particularly at night and early in the morning.

Owners of camper vans and motorhomes are also asked to be considerate when using parking spaces. Any parking restrictions and regulations should be respected, and vehicles should not occupy spaces for extended periods, particularly in busy locations. This helps ensure parking remains available for local residents, businesses and other visitors.

There is a wide variety of camping sites and sites that cater for camper vans and motorhomes across Gwynedd, providing suitable places to stay, essential services and facilities for the safe disposal of waste. The Council also provides dedicated motorhome stopping places in selected locations through its Arosfan scheme. Further information is available at: Motorhomes / Arosfan - Cyngor Gwynedd

Councillor Craig ab Iago, Cyngor Gwynedd Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

"We are pleased to welcome visitors who come to enjoy the beauty of Gwynedd in their camper vans and motorhomes. Tourism is an important part of the county's economy, and we want everyone to have a positive experience of their visit.

"What we are asking is that people are considerate of the communities they visit, respect the environment and dispose of their waste responsibly and legally. It is also important that drivers respect local parking arrangements and avoid occupying spaces for long periods when they are in high demand.

"We have an excellent range of sites across Gwynedd that cater specifically for camper vans and motorhomes, and we encourage people to make use of these facilities. By working together, we can ensure that Gwynedd remains a welcoming and enjoyable place for visitors and residents alike."

The Council added that responsible behaviour by visitors helps to protect Gwynedd's special natural environment and contributes to maintaining a positive relationship between local communities and visitors.
