Cyngor Gwynedd Electoral Service is a data controller under data protection legislation. This means we are responsible for deciding how we collect, use and store personal data in the course of our statutory functions.

What personal data we process

To support automatic voter registration, we may collect and process information such as your name, date of birth, address, nationality, and identifying information from public records.

Why we process your personal data

We process your data to identify eligible voters, maintain the electoral register, and fulfil our duties under the Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Act 2024.

Lawful basis

Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are Article 6(1)(c) (legal obligation) and Article 6(1)(e) (public task). Where special category data is processed, we rely on Article 9(2)(g) and Schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act 2018.

Where we get your data

We may receive information from DWP, HMRC, DVLA, educational institutions, Housing associations or internal council services to identify eligible individuals.

Who we share your data with

We may share your data with the Electoral Commission, Electoral Registration Officer, and other public bodies as required by law.

Data retention

We retain personal data in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, for as long as it is necessary for the purposes collected.
