Apply for a Parking Permit

If you are a resident, business owner, or frequent visitor to the area, you may need a parking permit to park in certain zones. This page will guide you through the process of applying for a parking permit, including eligibility, types of permits, and how to apply.

Types of Parking Permits

We offer several types of parking permits depending on your needs:

  • Resident Parking Permit: For residents living within a controlled parking zone (CPZ).
  • Visitor Parking Permit: Available to residents who need permits for visitors to park in restricted areas.
  • Business Parking Permit: For local businesses needing parking for staff and vehicles.
  • Carer Permit: For carers who need regular access to a resident’s home.
  • Temporary Permit: For short-term parking needs, such as when moving house or for building work.

Who is Eligible?

  • Resident Permit: You must provide proof of residency within the controlled parking zone (e.g. council tax or utility bill) and proof of vehicle ownership.
  • Visitor Permit: Available to residents; you must provide proof of address.
  • Business Permit: Businesses must be based within the CPZ and provide proof of business registration and vehicle use.
  • Carer Permit: Proof of care arrangements will be required.
  • Temporary Permit: Short-term permits require proof of temporary need, such as a tenancy agreement or work contract.

How to Apply

You can apply for a parking permit online, by post, or in person.

1. Apply Online

The quickest way to apply is through our online application form. You will need to upload scanned copies of the required documents, such as proof of address and vehicle ownership.

2. Apply by Post

Download and complete the parking permit application form and send it along with copies of your supporting documents.

Please allow up to 10 working days for processing.

3. Apply in Person

You can also visit our customer service centre to apply in person. Make sure to bring your supporting documents.

Permit Costs

  • Resident Permit: £120 per year
  • Visitor Permit: £50 per book of permits
  • Business Permit: £220 per year
  • Carer Permit: Free
  • Temporary Permit: £12 per hour

You can pay online, by phone, or at the council offices.

Renewal and Expiry

Most parking permits are valid for one year. You will receive a reminder to renew your permit before it expires. You can renew your permit using the same process as applying.

Lost or Stolen Permits

If your permit is lost or stolen, please contact Parking Services as soon as possible. There may be a replacement fee of £80.
