Primary - admission to Nursery or Reception class - September  
2018 only; deadline 1 February 2018

Children who are 3 years old before 1 September have a right to part time education in a primary school in Gwynedd (Nursery class).

Children who are 4 years old before 1 September have a right to full time education in a primary school in Gwynedd (Reception class).

To make an application for your child to attend one of Gwynedd’s primary schools:

Send the form by 1 February 2018.

If you live in Gwynedd but wish to send your child to a school in another county you will need to contact that authority and follow their procedures.

Transferring / changing schools

If you want to move your child from one school to another (not move from primary to secondary) you need to discuss with the head teachers of the related schools. After discussing with the head teachers:

We advise you not to move pupils during a school year so as not to impair their education.

Transfer from Infant to Junior school - admission in September
2018 only; deadline 1 February 2018

All parents who’s children are due to leave a Infant school need to apply for a place in year 3 or 4 at another school before 1 February 2018. This also applies to schools which have 2 years of entry such as Ysgol Gynradd Nefyn and Ysgol Sarn Bach. To make an application for your child to transfer to a Junior school:

Send the form by 1 February 2018.

Voluntary Aided Schools - admission in September 2018

There are three voluntary aided primary schools in Gwynedd: Ysgol Ein Harglwyddes, Ysgol Santes Helen and Ysgol Beuno Sant.

As the Governing Body of voluntary aided schools are their own Admission Authority, admission to the three voluntary aided schools is the responsibility of the Governors.

For admission to a voluntary aided primary school, a written application should be made directly to the school.  

Secondary - admission in September 2018 only

In November, primary schools send out a form to parents of year 6 pupils so that they can choose a secondary school for their child. To make an application for your child to attend one of Gwynedd’s secondary schools:

You have a right to appeal any decisions to an independent panel.
