Family learning day at Caernarfon Castle

 Children from a number of Gwynedd schools recently enjoyed a 'Family Learning Celebration Day' held at Caernarfon Castle.

 Families within the Communities 1st cluster are given the opportunity to complete a Family Learning Signature in their local schools. This event was an opportunity to take part in arrange of various activities in order to enable families to learn more together.

 The event was organised by Communities 1st Gwynedd in partnership with CADW, local schools and members of the Gwynedd Fusion Network. Local cultural and heritage and organisations provided the families with a wide range of activities to support family learning.

 Almost 200 pupils came to the event, including children from Ysgol Maesincla, Yr Hendre, Talysarn, Tryfan. They had an opportunity to take part in different activities including stories in the tee-pee from the Library Service, dressing up and creating masks with Storiel, craft activities with Pontio, amazing medals for family members were made with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, and they produced great slate art with the National Slate Museum.

 Councillor Mair Rowlands, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said;

 “The Family Learning Day at Caernarfon Castle was an amazing opportunity to celebrate the success of everyone who took part in this project. It was nice to see that families were learning together as a result of the project’s success. I am so glad that everyone enjoyed.”

 The organisations that were involved with the project were CADW, Pontio, the National Slate Museum, Gwynedd Libraries, Storiel and Galeri. Everyone had a healthy lunch provided by “Te a Cofi”.
