Gwynedd Council supports Dementia Action Week
Gwynedd Council’s Dementia physical activity program, DementiaGo are participating in the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Action Week, which takes between 21 and 27 May.
Open days will be held at Penllyn Leisure Centre, Bala on Monday, 21 May and Bro Dysynni Leisure Centre Tywyn on Friday, 25 May.
Emma Quaeck, DementiaGo Project Manager stated: “The purpose of the open day is to welcome anyone who may be concerned about their memory, have dementia or are caring for someone with dementia to come along and meet staff who run our physical activity programme. There will be an opportunity to have a go at gentle chair exercise class.
“There will also be representatives from the Alzheimer’s Society and other local organisations, so there will be lots of information to help and support, and we will of course be offering a free cuppa!”
As part of the event, Emma will be running a Dementia Friends information session between 12pm and 1pm which is open to everyone. During this informal session, people will have the chance to learn more about dementia and how to support individuals within the community.
Councillor Craig ab Iago, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member who leads on leisure matters added: “DementiaGo offers a safe and understanding environment for people living with dementia and their carers to take part in activities that they may have enjoyed doing previously.
“This can help people to live well in their communities for as long as possible. I would encourage people who would benefit from this valuable service and may need advice to go along to one of these open days.”
