International Women's Day – celebrating the contribution of Gwynedd women
Gwynedd Council will publish a video on International Women’s Day (8 March) to celebrate and highlight the contribution of Gwynedd women to the county, to Wales and beyond.
The aim is that the video, which will be shown on the Council’s Twitter (@CyngorGwynedd) and Facebook (CyngorGwyneddCouncil) accounts, will stimulate a discussion about the contribution of Gwynedd women to our society over the years.
As part of the campaign, the Council will encourage the county’s residents to share details through social media about those women who have inspired them, by using the #GwyneddWomen hashtag.
Councillor Mair Rowlands, Gwynedd Council Deputy Leader said: “Over the centuries, women have made a significant contribution to our society, but very often their stories have not had their rightful place in our history.
“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political contribution of women, and to inspire the next generation to continue to fight for true equality.
“The video that has been produced is a starting point and aims to begin a discussion. We hope that this will encourage Gwynedd people to celebrate the women who have inspired them.”
