Events and activities will be held throughout March to highlight how the arts can benefit our health and wellbeing.

There will be something for everyone, including creative writing courses, crafts and music sessions. There will also be an art exhibition at Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Gallery throughout the month. It’s also a chance to join the new venture Canfod y Gân, an opportunity for vulnerable young people and adults to sing with each other and enjoy music.

A full calendar of events is available at www.gwyneddgreadigol.com and the Gwynedd Greadigol Facebook page. Each event will give those taking part the opportunity to socialise and make new connections.

The month-long celebration has been coordinated in Gwynedd by Gwynedd Council’s Community Arts Service, as part of a joint venture across all the counties of north Wales. Similar events will be held across the region.

Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor Gareth Thomas, said: “There’s no doubt that getting involved with the arts is hugely beneficial for our health and wellbeing – be that by enjoying the imagination and skill of others or having the chance to get stuck in and  being creative ourselves.

“I’m glad that local people will have the chance to try something new and would urge everyone to take a look to see what’s available and have a go at something new.”

Research by health experts shows that involvement with the arts will lead to benefits for wellbeing in five ways: connecting with people around us, being active, taking notice, keep learning and giving to others. There are also plans to put in place a major research scheme piloting an arts on prescription model for adult health and wellbeing in Gwynedd. Further details will be published during the second week of March.
