The Leader of Gwynedd Council, Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn has paid tribute to two experienced Cabinet Members who are standing down after many years of service.

Councillor Peredur Jenkins, Cabinet Member for Finance and Councillor Gareth Roberts, Cabinet Member for Care will be standing down at the end of the current financial year.

Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn, Council Leader said: “After many years of service and dedication to their Service areas, I would like to sincerely thank Councillor Gareth Roberts and Councillor Peredur Jenkins for their tireless work.

“A member of the Council’s Executive Board and then the Cabinet, Councillor Gareth Roberts was initially responsible for Environment – including Planning and Transport; Highways and Municipal Services and Ymgynhoriaeth Gwynedd Consultancy – for several years as the Council developed its recycling services and reduced the percentage of waste sent to the landfill.

“Since 2015, Councillor Roberts has been a Cabinet Member for Care, leading on Adults, Health and Wellbeing matters and on the work of modernising the provision and ensuring that services meet the needs and expectations of the individual, and expanding the dementia provision locally through Council’s residential homes. I’m certain that Gareth will continue to make a valuable contribution to the work of the Council during the coming years and will continue as an active local member for the Aberdaron area.

“Councillor Peredur Jenkins was a member of the Council’s Executive Board for several years with responsibility for Finance and leading on the authority’s budgetary work.

“Then, since 2012, he has been a Cabinet Member with responsibility for Finance, and during his time leading in this field he has led the work of setting the financial strategy and ensuring that the Council’s key services are protected, whilst pressing on the government to ensure a fair financial settlement for rural council’s such as Gwynedd. I’d like to thank him for his service, and I know he will continue to be an active member of the Council by representing the Brithdir and Llanfachreth, y Ganllwyd and Llanelltyd ward.

“With that, I would like to welcome Councillor Catrin Wager (Bangor –Menai) and Councillor Cemlyn Williams (Caernarfon – Cadnant) as prospective Cabinet members. Both of them are enthusiastic members who are already making a positive difference for the people of Gwynedd and I’m sure they will make an important contribution as Cabinet Members from April onwards.”

Details about the areas the new cabinet members will be taking responsibility for will be announced during the coming weeks.
