Pop Up Community Café Coming to Maesgeirchen!

During March and April the MATRA (Maesgeirchen and Tan y Bryn Residents Association) office at Llys Dylan will be transformed into a temporary Pop Up Café- Caffi MaesG.

Gwynedd Communities 1st, PMP, Matra and CCG have been co-working to develop an exciting pilot project in the area.

If the Pop-Up Café and 2 month trial period proves to be a success we will work together to access funding to set up and properly equipped and full time community café on the estate. But in order for this to happen we need to see that residents are keen to use the service and that there are volunteers willing to help with the next stage.

The Space will be open all day Wednesday and on Friday afternoons initially. There will be a varied programme including some activities such as “Come and cook sessions”, Food Hygiene Courses and Fun Family Cooking sessions. There will also be a warm welcome for residents just to call in for a chat and a cuppa and to use the great Book Swap facility or free wifi. There will be no charges during this trail period but we will be collecting donations from customers that will be used by PMP to organise Easter activities for the young people on the estate.

The space can also be made available free of charge at various times during the week for other groups of the estate which could like to organise events or fundraisers e.g. Would you like to run a Coffee Morning for good cause? We have lots of other good ideas that we would like to develop including using the Café to distribute Fareshare produce from local supermarkets free of charge and also using the café as a collection point for the FoodBank and Food Coop. To do all this we really need volunteers that can help out during the day, collect food from local supermarkets after work or join a committee to manage the project. We can provide free training for any volunteers and great work experience for anyone looking to find work.

Councillor Mair Rowlands, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said:

“We are very glad to see this pilot scheme come true and are looking forward to see what’s to come. If you’re interested, we as a Council and members of the public are eager to see people volunteering to make the most of this scheme.”

The Cafe will open it's doors for the first time on 06/03/17 at 2pm.
