Gwynedd Student Receives Funding to Study through Welsh
Siân Elin Morgan-Price from Caernarfon will receive the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Cyngor Gwynedd Scholarship of £3,000 this year.
The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Cyngor Gwynedd Scholarship was established by Gwynedd Council. The scholarship is awarded every year to an individual who has applied for the Coleg Cymraeg’s Main Scholarship, lives in Gwynedd and wants to study 100% of their university course through the medium of Welsh.
After completing her A Levels at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen, Caernarfon, Siân hopes to follow a joint honours degree course in Welsh and Music at Bangor University.
Siân is currently studying Welsh and Music for A Levels and is looking forward to deepening her understanding of both subjects at university. She hopes to buy teaching resources and fund extra curricular activities with the scholarship.’’
Siân said: ‘‘I feel priviledged to receive this scholarship and extremely grateful for the support. The scholarship will enable me to further develop my skills through the medium of Welsh and gain new experiences during my time at university.’’
Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Education added:
‘‘Congratulations to Siân on winning the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Cyngor Gwynedd Scholarship and we wish her well with her studies at Bangor. As a Council, we are glad to be able to support students from Gwynedd who want to develop their careers through the medium of Welsh and are glad to be able to work with the Coleg Cymraeg on the important work of promoting Welsh language medium provision within higher education.’’
