Fines for failing to comply with property orders
Two property owners in Porthmadog have been fined for failing to comply with orders to carry out repair work by Gwynedd Council’s Housing Department.
At a hearing at Caernarfon Magistrates Court, on 25 January, Mark Williams, 40 Dublin Street, Tremadog, pleaded guilty for failing to comply with an order from Gwynedd Council for failing to repair his rental property at 1 Chandlers Place, Porthmadog. The property’s shortcomings included serious hazards of falling on stairs and fire deficiencies. He was fined £500, was ordered to pay costs of £280 and a victim surcharge of £50.
Mary Williams, 9 Osmond Lane Porthmadog, was found guilty in a separate hearing at Caernarfon Magistrates Court on 25 January for failing to comply with a notice to repair damp affecting the house next door. She was ordered to pay a fine of £600, as well as costs of £280 and £60 victim surcharge.
After the hearing Carys Fôn Williams, Gwynedd Council Private Sector Housing Manager said: “We are pleased that the magistrates have sent a clear message that allowing a property to affect nearby dwellings is totally unacceptable.”
