Generations get together to tackle litter in Penygroes
Eight members of the community group Friends of Penygroes joined forces with children from Ysgol Bro Lleu recently in a litter-picking campaign to draw attention to the litter problem in the area.
The members were joined by 14 year 4 children at the school before splitting up into groups to target problem areas around the village.
Local Gwynedd Councillor and member of the Friends of Penygroes, Councillor Judith Humphreys, said: “It was a pleasure to see so many members from the Friends joining the children from Bro Lleu. One or two of us went with the children along the cycle path and we collected bags of bottles and cans for recycling and a number of bags of general litter.
Many thanks to all and especially the children for their keen readiness to take part and to Gwynedd’s Caru Cymru project for the equipment.”
On behalf of the year 4 children, Ella Lewis said: “It’s very important not to throw litter, because the plastic will get into the sea and kill animals. We collected litter around the Village to keep Penygroes tidy.”
Lewis Williams, also in year 4, said: “Litter-picking is good because it keeps our planet clean. It is also important because it keeps the animals safe. It’s important for everyone to look after our planet.”
Councillor Catrin Wager, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Municipal, said: “This is a great example of the generations working together to tackle this problem in our communities. More and more often we are seeing that communities are coming together to act and this is fantastic to see.
“I’d like to thank the councillor, Friends of Penygroes and, of course, the children for all their hard work.”
