Fair and accessible services for all: Gwynedd residents urged to have your say

Date: 21/04/2021

Gwynedd Council is reminding the public of a survey to see how accessible and fair local services are here in Gwynedd.

As a part of this consultation, the Council is asking people to fill in a questionnaire to share their experiences of using services and of applying for a job with the Council.

The consultation’s findings will then provide a basis for how public services and staffing systems will be adapted and developed so as to ensure they meet the needs of everyone who uses them. The consultation is open until 30 April.

Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Support said:

“The Council offers a range of services for the people of Gwynedd – from services which are familiar to everyone like recycling and waste collection, to services that are relevant to particular groups of people like the homelessness services.

“Whatever the service, we want to avoid a situation where some people don’t make use of them because of some kind of barriers.

“A large number of things can cause barriers. For example, if the service isn’t in a convenient location such as not being near the bus stop and the individual who needs the service doesn’t drive.

“Some barriers can be less obvious, such as letters that are difficult to understand or a situation where someone feels uncomfortable to ask for help.

“Because of the difficult times we’re living in, with more people seeking Gwynedd Council services, it’s more important than ever that we make sure that they’re accessible and that we don’t discriminate against anyone.”

As the county’s largest employer, with some 7,000 people working for Gwynedd Council, we want to make sure that our workforce reflects the local population and that there are no barriers preventing people from all backgrounds from applying for jobs.

The questionnaire is available on the Council website until 30 April: www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/fairservices

Paper copies, large print, Braille, other languages of the questionnaire are available by contacting equality@gwynedd.llyw.cymru or calling 01766 771000 to discuss your needs.
