Band Jazz 3

This weekend the renowned Ysgol Tryfan Jazz Band succeeded in mesmerising  the audience and adjudicators at the Grand Hall of Swansea University, and an audience of tens of thousands sat at home watching live on S4C,  to capture the top prize in the youth section of Band Cymru 2018. Ysgol Tryfan was the only single school band  to reach the final, and so it was a great achievement to defeat the bands of Gwent, Torfaen and Cardiff regional music services in the final. Band Jazz Ysgol Tryfan played three pieces - 'Uptown Funk', ‘Li’l Darlin’ and 'Latin Fantasy',  and when announcing the winners in a high standard competition, the adjudicators  referred to their complete performance and their musical accuracy.

A huge congratulations to all members of Band Jazz Ysgol Tryfan, featuring pupils from Year 7 to Year 12,  and to Mr Hefin Evans for his guidance and selection of music. Calls for the band are now flowing in,  and the attention is great and well-deserved.  To quote part of a review from the 4barsrest.com website - "Tryfan School Jazz Band, a remarkable jazz ensemble from a single secondary school in North Wales! They certainly had to play to the top of their form, as Torfaen Youth Jazz Band, Cardiff & Vale Music Service Jazz Orchestra and defending champion Greater Gwent Youth Band each produced sets that showed engaging variety and style."

They are now planning confidently towards the future.  Congratulations!
