Landlords encouraged to register with Rent Smart Wales

A new law has been introduced which asks every housing landlord, private rent property agent who rules property in Wales to register by 23 November, 2016.

Gwynedd Council is co-working with the Welsh Government to raise awareness about the law that will be enforced from 23 November 2016 onwards. The Council is reminding landlords the need to register, undergo training and own a license by 23 November onwards.

Councillor Ioan Thomas, Cabinet Member for Housing in Gwynedd Council said: “The purpose of this new law is to make sure that rent accommodation is safe, well managed and acceptable and that tenants are protected.

“Rent Smart Wales requires every landlord to register and agents or landlord that self-manage to be licensed. The Council has held a series of sessions about the matter, but if you haven’t registered yet, we are calling landlords to attend one of the sessions that will be held over the coming weeks, or contact the Housing Department to discuss.”

Richard Hughes, Senior Technical Officer of Gwynedd Council Housing added: “Our message to landlords is simple – if you haven’t yet registered your business, you need to do so now or risk facing a financial penalty. Registering online or over the phone is quick and easy, but if you have any questions, please contact us or pop in to one of our local drop in sessions for a chat.”

Sessions will be conducted for landlords and tenants who require registration information:
