Purpose of the grant

The Welcoming the Customer Safely Fund has been established to support businesses in town and city centres to safely operate under extreme challenges as a result of Covid19. We recognise that businesses are entering a new phase of planning towards operating through the winter months and making preparations for the future. 

This fund is available to independent, small and medium-sized businesses operating in Town and City Centres in Gwynedd to support them in complying with Welsh Government social distancing guidelines.


Who can apply?

This grant is available to small, medium-sized, independent businesses and enterprises within the following locations in Gwynedd. Businesses will need to be located within the main commercial centres in these locations.

3) Porthmadog
4) Pwllheli
5) Blaenau Ffestiniog
6) Dolgellau
7) Tywyn
8) Aberdyfi
9) Bala
10) Barmouth
11) Harlech
12) Penrhydeudraeth
13) Criccieth
14) Nefyn
15) Abersoch
16) Penygroes
17) Llanberis
18) Bethesda
19) Aberdaron
20) Beddgelert

Businesses who pay business rates to Gwynedd Council will be eligible and businesses that hold or have applied for the necessary consents.

In addition, the business will need to:

Chain, National and International companies are not eligible for support.


How much can you apply for?

Depending on your application the minimum that can be awarded is £500 and the maximum is £2,000. The contribution can be up to 80% of the value of the work.

All funding must be claimed by 22 February 2021. 


When can you apply?

The fund is now open for applications and is based on a first come, first served basis. There is no deadline. 


What can be funded?

Businesses may apply for financial support that can contribute to quality, external street furniture and equipment such as:

  • External Boards
  • External Chairs
  • Outside service facilities
  • External Screens or plants
  • Outdoor canopy / covers
  • External heaters
  • External parasols

All equipment will have to meet health and safety requirements and the business will be responsible for the proper and safe insurance and maintenance of the equipment.
