Business Grants – Self-catering Accommodation

Important message for owners of self-catering accommodation – update 1 July 2020

The Welsh Government Business Grants (Business Rates) scheme closed at 5pm on Friday, 30th June 2020.  We cannot now accept new applications.

The Council has already distributed over £53 million to over four and a half thousand ratepayers.  If you have submitted an application, we will process it as soon as possible.  If there is any missing information, we will contact you to discuss further.  Thank you for your patience.

Welsh Government has published revised guidance in relation to self-catering accommodation. In accordance with the new guidance, properties will not be eligible for grant unless specific criteria are met.

All self-catering accommodation owners were sent an e-mail message by the Council on 29 or 30 April explaining the next steps. If you have submitted a grant application and have not seen the message, please check your "spam” folder.

If the property has never been a domestic dwelling, please let the Council know as soon as possible. If it has been, in order to facilitate the process of assessing your claim following the new rules we ask you to reply to the email message attaching:

  • Evidence of two years of trading accounts directly preceding the current financial year of the business
  • Evidence that the self-catering accommodation has been actually let for a period of 140 days or more in the financial year 2019-20

To facilitate the process of assessing your application, please include your Business Rates reference in the subject line of your reply message.

After assessing the initial evidence provided in response to the above, in some cases the Council will need further evidence, such as income tax information, in order to meet the requirements of the scheme.  In these cases we will write to you with a request that you submit the information via a secure portal on the Council's website.  Do not attach sensitive data of this type to your e-mail message.
