Request a Council Tax Refund

If you have overpaid your Council Tax or your account is in credit, you may be eligible for a refund. This page explains how to check your eligibility, apply for a refund, and what to expect once your application is submitted.

Who Can Request a Refund?

You may request a Council Tax refund if:

  • You have overpaid due to a change in your circumstances, such as moving house or an adjustment to your Council Tax band.
  • Your Council Tax account is in credit because of a direct debit payment error or overpayment.
  • You have recently moved out of the property and have paid more than the amount owed for the time you lived there.

How to Check If You're Eligible

To check whether you have overpaid or if your account is in credit, you can:

  • Log in to your Council Tax online account to view your payment history and current balance.
  • Contact our Council Tax team via phone or email for assistance.
