If you are planning to start or operate a business within our council area, you may need to apply for a business licence. A business licence ensures that your business complies with local regulations and operates safely for the benefit of the community.
This page provides guidance on how to apply, what types of businesses need a licence, and what documentation you will need to provide.
Do You Need a Business Licence?
Not all businesses require a licence, but certain activities are regulated and must be licensed. Common types of businesses that require a licence include:
- Food establishments (restaurants, cafes, takeaways)
- Pubs, clubs, and other venues selling alcohol
- Taxi and private hire services
- Street trading (such as market stalls or mobile food vendors)
- Tattoo parlours, beauty salons, and massage therapists
- Event organisers (for public gatherings, markets, or festivals)
If you're unsure whether your business requires a licence, please contact our Business Licensing Team at [insert contact details].
