Funded childcare for eligible 2-year-olds will be available across Gwynedd from 2 November 2026.

Parents and carers will need to complete an application form and provide proof of residence in Gwynedd, along with evidence of the child’s date of birth.

The funding can only be accessed through childcare providers registered to offer funded childcare places for 2-year-olds.


What is available?

Children are entitled to 12.5 hours per week (a 2.5-hour session per day, up to 5 days a week) during school term time, with one childcare provider.

If you are already receiving Flying Start childcare or funded 2-year-old childcare, you cannot apply for additional hours.


When can a child receive childcare for 2-year-olds?

A child can receive 2-year-old childcare from the term following their second birthday until the end of the term in which they turn three.

Important: You must check whether the relevant childcare provider is registered to provide funded childcare places for 2-year-olds, and whether a place is available, before you submit your application.

Please note:

  • You will be required to attach documents (photo/scan) as evidence of the child's age and address. You will need to attach: your child's birth certificate, and a current Council Tax bill OR a utility bill dated within the last 3 months. Your application will not be considered without these documents.
  • Wait for confirmation that your application has been approved (usually within 15 working days).
  • After receiving an email with a link, log in to the online system to select your childcare provider.
  • Cyngor Gwynedd will confirm whether there is a place for your child with your chosen childcare provider.
